Research Data So Far

Since you selected, "Yes" to feeling that your texting style has changed from when you started to no...

Text Response
I originally started with abbreviations and acronyms. I never used to use capitalization and punctuation. Now I use proper grammar.
I have started using acronyms more and have created my own acronyms.
I type with less acronyms. When I first received a phone with the ablitly to text, the type of phone I had made it very difficult to type. Acronyms were a must for that type of phone keys. Now that I'm older and equiped with better technology, I do not feel the need to use it as much. I'd prefer to use the full word or phrase.
When I was younger I used to use a lot of acronyms but as I got older I stopped altogether
i have started to use a lot more acronyms than before.
My style changed from abbreviations to full words and sentences.
I have gotten a lot more proper when I text now. I used to use faces like :D or =(  and I used to use caps a lot, lots of abbreviations. Now I write in full sentences and spell everything out.
I feel that I use to text with more abbreviations, but now I use full sentences.
I write correctly and full sentences.
I became an adult.
Cell phones have changed drastically so of course style is affected. It's so much easier to write complete sentences on these smart phones than the flip phones of 2004 when I was a child texting was more informal and quick. More abbreviations and such, I hardly ever use them now.

The focus of my study is to determine if text-messaging lingo and acronyms has an ultimate effect on proper and professional grammar and writing.
Hypothesis: Text-messaging lingo and acronyms have a negative effect on the proper and professional grammar and writing for college students aging from 18 – 25.
Audience: College Students aged 18-25.

Sub-thesis: Does the earlier one starts texting affect the professional literacy?
Survey: When have you started text messaging?
Survey question to assess grammar while texting (both here and now and before)
Survey question to assess professional grammar (pathos approach)

Sub-thesis: Do phrases “your” “you’re” that are represented by the acronym “ur” have an effect on professional/proper grammar?
Based on results above, infer some type of explanation using the data for supporting the same issue with using the words, “their” “they’re” and “there”.

Surveys for research project

I choose to Make suveys for my research project. Im finding them to be a little bit harder than I thought to thing of questions for them.. I plan to hand out surveys to about 20 people to find out opinions about "text talk"some survey questions I have thought of are:
1. How much do you use acronyms in texts daily?

2. What Acronyns do you use the most? (ex) (lol, omg, wtf)

3. What contexts do you use these?

4. Do you think that Abriviating words will cause a lack of academic standard writing?

5.How do you feel about our younger generations association to text speak?

6. Can you correctly identify the meaning of various often used acrynyms, or do you belive they could be missinterpreted? Why?

...... I was also thinking of maybe posting a facebook event explaining my research and have everyone invited to the page have to only speak in text speak so I can visually watch how the conversations play out.

Oral History

It was interesting doing interviews with our classmates on our memories from 9/11. When recording our interviews, it felt a little bit awkward becaus e it was hard to transition into each question. What I noticed was that as the questions were asked, the responses ended up being longer than expected and in turn some ended up answering parts of another question. I sometimes feel like i would need to stop and think of more questions because they get answered so quickly but it was a good experience with the recorder because i got to hear back what was said.
